Avondale Comes Alive: Pure & Simple Walkathon Unites Community

Updated: Jun 23

Saturday morning the heart of Avondale was pumping with purpose as families, kids, and community leaders gathered at the Avondale Town Center for the 5th Annual Pure and Simple Fitness Walkathon. This free community event wasn't just about steps—it was about unity, wellness, and love.

Ebony J Media had the pleasure of being the event’s official DJ, keeping everyone hyped with music, hosting live interviews, and organizing the group photo finale. Whether you walked or not—you moved when we turned up the speakers! 🎶

Participants chose between a 1 mile or 5K route, with families, kids, and organizations walking side by side. Shoutout to:

  • Kevin Farmer, winner of the 5K 🏅

  • Shonna from Xtreme Hip Hop, who led an energetic fitness demo that had everyone sweating with a smile! 💪🏾 Watch Live!

The vendor fair after the walk was a wellness dream:

  • Sigma Gamma Rho for passing out water bottles 💧

  • The Young Marines of Cincinnati walked together in strength.

  • Philautia TD had table recruiting volunteers.

  • The Little Daisy House Childcare shared back-to-school resources for families 🎒

  • Cultured Health Care passed out health kits to keep the community covered 🩺

  • Wholeistic Jusic Bar served up refreshing açaí bowls, fruit, and healthy snacks 🥝🍓

Special guests included Tropikana media personality and Danielle Thompson from the African American Chamber, and so many community members who showed up to support and celebrate.

Even if you didn’t plan to walk, you still got your steps in—because I made sure that music moved everybody!

It wasn’t just a walk—it was a full-body, whole-community experience. Thanks to Pure and Simple Fitness for reminding us that movement is medicine, and that when we move together, we thrive.
