Did you know that simply “breathing” can help heal a broken heart? According to the American Heart Association, intense emotional stress can increase the risk of heart attack or heart disease, often linked to unprocessed grief.
This was just one of the many powerful takeaways from our recent CEO Therapy session.

Last night, Ebony J Media Learning Center hosted CEO Therapy, a safe space for CEOs to express themselves and find healing. After a tour of the center, refreshments, and networking, Ronald Miller, COO of Ebony J Media, welcomed everyone and shared the purpose of the session. Once introductions were made, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor Courtney Carroll, with 12 years of mental health experience, began empowering attendees with her insights on grief.

Courtney Carroll shared insights on the stages of grief, the importance of building a self-care plan, and finding a safe place or person to process grief. She reminded us that:
"Grief is not something to move past—it is something we learn to carry differently over time."
She also stressed the need to prioritize ourselves:
- “Breathe” intentionally.
- Create a self-care plan.
- Seek out safe spaces to express and process your emotions.
-Communicate how you feel to others.
Ronald Miller opened up about the challenges of leading while grieving. After opening the media center, he experienced the devastating loss of three people close to him. Despite his many wins, Ronald shared how grief continues to affect him as a leader. He emphasized the importance of leaning on God, finding supportive friends and coworkers, and grounding yourself through movement, journaling, and prayer.

“Nobody in this room can help. Nothing we can say will give you what you're looking for. You can only get it from Him," Ronald reminded us.
Ronald also shared practical tips to help carry grief:
- “Talk to God” daily.
- Fall in love with yourself and identify the things you love about who you are.
- Discover your triggers and learn to navigate them.
- Travel to places that bring freedom or remind you of your loved one.
4 Key Ways to Help Carry Grief:
- Ground yourself: Walk, dance, or simply breathe deeply.
- Journal: Write out your feelings to release and process them.
- Seek Help: Professional support through therapy or grief support groups.
- Lean on God: Trust Him as your ultimate source of strength and healing.
Attendees left with additional resources, including:
Courtney Carroll’s eBook: "How to Carry What Can’t Be Fixed."
Ebony J Media’s workbook: "Leading While Grieving."
Bible verses, book guides, and professional referrals for continued support.”.
The event was impactful and reinforced that healing doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time, faith, community, and the determination to embrace the process.

Here’s some questions for Reflection :
- How often are you checking in with your emotions?
- Who’s a part of your grief support team?
