Finding Your Frequency with Nella D: A Week of Inspiration at Ebony J Media

Updated: Jun 23

This week marked a powerful start to our Ebony J Media Summer Camp, and we had the honor of kicking things off with a special guest — Cincinnati’s very own Nella D, media personality, DJ, and founder of 411 Uncut. Her visit left a lasting impression on our students as they began their journey in media, learning not only the technical side of the industry but the heart, hustle, and healing that comes with it.

Real Talk, Real Results

Nella D didn’t just talk about media — she lived it in front of our students. From her days managing at McDonald's to sleeping on her parents’ couch while pursuing her dreams in radio, she reminded us that success isn’t a straight line — it’s a climb. She shared how being broke didn’t stop her from building a brand and becoming a respected voice in the community.

“I learned that you can’t be antisocial and expect to succeed in media,” said Amareon Caulton, a student at Ebony J Media. “You have to build relationships, find motivation from others, and stay consistent. That’s what Nella D taught us — success comes from showing up every day.”

More Than a Guest, A Guide

Her words resonated with students on a deep level. Jeremy Simms reflected, “Even when she didn’t have enough to eat, she kept going. Her story reminded me that being your own boss takes strength and sacrifice.” He continued, “She was transparent about her struggles and made me realize the importance of staying focused on your goals no matter what life throws at you.”

Zae, another student, was inspired to reflect on his own path and passion for music. “Nella D made me think about why I started rapping — and how I want to be an influence to the youth,” he said. “She showed me that you don’t need to follow the streets to be successful. You can lead with your passion and still win.”

Impact That Sticks

Every student walked away with a piece of her wisdom: how to stay consistent, how to market yourself, how to use your audience wisely, and most importantly, how to find your frequency — the unique voice and rhythm that sets you apart in media.

From Mikahal, who appreciated her advice on promotion and branding, to Dymon, who admired her strength and consistency, it was clear: Nella D’s presence wasn’t just a visit — it was a transformation.

“She didn’t come from a lot, but she made something out of it,” said Dymon. “That made me respect her even more. She helped a lot of people in our class just by telling her story.”

Join the Movement

This week reminded us why Ebony J Media exists — to build up the next generation of media professionals through real-world experience, mentorship, and access to voices that matter.

If you want your child or student to experience powerful mentorship like this, join our membership program or register for one of our media training camps. At Ebony J Media, we don’t just teach content creation — we build confidence, creativity, and community.

Shout Out to Nella D

Thank you, Nella D, for sharing your journey with transparency and truth. You showed our students what’s possible when you stay focused, stay faithful, and stay in your lane — or better yet, find your frequency.
