Transformative Experiences: Student Testimonials from Our Media Program

We have a cohort of four students currently participating in the media program at Ebony J Media. Now, halfway through the six-week course, they are taking time to reflect on their experiences and what they’ve learned so far. Each participant has gained hands-on skills, valuable insights, and exposure to the many opportunities within the media industry. High schoolers, Aaliyah Moran and Mikhail Baker, share what their time in the program has been like so far:

Aaliyah shares, "My experience with Ebony J Media has been nothing short of amazing. The Ebony J Media program has helped me tremendously, providing valuable advice and new information on how to navigate life and work toward success. It’s an educational and fulfilling program that I highly recommend. The program is very hands-on and offers so many opportunities that can play a big part in your future. Right now, we’re working on blogging and creating an event for people to come out, have fun, learn new things, and get inspired to join the program."

Aaliyah created one of our upcoming events called The Mic Is Yours – The Media Takeover. The event is designed to introduce teenagers to Ebony J Media’s engaging, hands-on activities such as DJing, podcasting, content creation, and more. Styled as an open house, the event aims to inspire youth to explore the world of media and consider becoming part of the program.

Mikhail echoes this same sentiment. He expresses, "my first time seeing Ebony J Media was fun—I really loved how everything looked and the encouragement I felt. Learning about the classes taught me a lot, like how to mix songs, record my own music, and write my own script. I do wish they offered production classes so I could learn how it all works and get some suggestions on what equipment to use to start making music. I think the most fun I had was when I tried DJing for the first time—that's probably the part I remember the most from my time there. The only thing I need now is to make sure I have a budget when I start DJing.”

The reflections from this cohort highlight just how impactful and inspiring the Ebony J Media program has been. From gaining hands-on experience in DJing and podcasting to learning the basics of music production and storytelling, each student has walked away with new skills and a clearer vision for their future in media.
